About Octavius

Built by an operator. For operators.

Octavius is run by Titus Mulquiney out of Auckland, working with a small senior team of developers and Claude as the AI workforce. Twenty years of senior operator work, applied to building AI brains and AI workforces for the founders we used to work for.

No sales team. No middle layer. You talk to Titus, every call.

Why Octavius exists

Most founders end up running their business out of their own head.

I built Octavius because I'd watched the same pattern for twenty years. A founder builds something real. Hits ten, twenty, thirty people. The team handles plenty. But the work that needs the founder's eye keeps stacking up. Judgement calls. Approvals that need context. Reporting. Briefings. The follow-ups that compound because no one else has the whole picture.

I've sat across the table from too many of those founders. Profitable. Two-decades-in. They couldn't take a clean week off without something quietly falling over. That's the Operator Trap.

AI is finally good enough to rewrite what a small senior team can do for businesses that size. Octavius exists to use it to get founders out of the trap.

A dim desk at the end of a long day. A tall stack of unfinished paperwork to one side, an open paper calendar showing dense back-to-back meeting blocks, a phone with notifications glowing softly, and a half-finished cup of coffee. The chair pulled out, as if the owner has just stepped away.
The operator

Twenty years running digital for people who don't accept slack work.

I started my career in the UK as a producer and project manager at Sony, working across creative design, process implementation, documentation and production for global teams. From there I moved into senior operator roles across ed-tech, finance, health-tech and B2B marketing agencies. Always on the operator side. Always trusted to take the brief and ship to standard.

Five years ago I came home to Auckland and founded Smile Tactics. Since then I've quietly run the digital work for around fifteen local businesses, mostly dental practices. Sites, ads, SEO, operations. Week in, week out. The work nobody sees because it's working.

Octavius is what twenty years of operator-side digital ends up looking like when AI is finally good enough to install into a business properly.

How we work

A small senior team. With Claude as our top team member.

Octavius runs lean on purpose. I'm the operator. I run the discovery calls, the strategy intensives, the architecture, and the build oversight on every install. A trusted group of senior developers covers the deeper integration work and the harder edges.

And then there's Claude. The Anthropic AI is, without exaggeration, our most active team member. Claude reads the brief, drafts the spec, writes most of the code, runs the QA, and helps me think through architecture decisions every day. The same AI brain we install for our clients is the brain we use to run Octavius itself.

That setup is the reason a two-week Foundation build is realistic. Twenty years of operator judgement, a senior dev team, and an AI workforce that doesn't sleep. We're using the same shape of system we sell, because nothing else makes a small senior team produce work of this scale at this pace.

A solo craftsman at a wide workbench, viewed from above. Around his hands, four or five different workflows in different states of completion. A half-finished mechanism, a stack of finished reports, a sketch being annotated, a finished assembly ready to ship. The output suggests far more than one pair of hands.
What you can expect

Direct contact. Bespoke craft. Ownership lock-in.

From the first call onwards, you're talking to me. Not a sales team. Not a junior. Not a chatbot pretending. Discovery call, Strategy Intensive, build kickoff. I'm in every conversation that matters.

Every install is bespoke. The brain is trained on your business. The workforce automations are built around your bottlenecks. Nothing is templated. Nothing is shared with other clients. We do the audit before we quote the build, every time, so the scope's right before anyone signs.

And every line of code we write lives on your accounts. Your infrastructure. Your credentials. The IP paperwork is signed at handover. If we close tomorrow, the Foundation keeps running. We're not in the platform-lock-in business.

Two pairs of weathered hands at a workbench. One pair passes a finished mechanical assembly into the other's open palms. A signed paper document with a fountain pen and a brass key rest on a leather notebook beside them.
Outside work

Auckland. Three kids. Dinner is a no-meetings zone.

I live in Auckland with my wife, who runs her own dental practice, and our three young children. They're the actual reason all of this exists. The point of building AI that takes routine work off founders' plates is to give them back the kind of time I want for my own family. Dinner is a phone-down hour in our house.

The Foundation we install for clients is shaped by the same belief. Your business should run without you needing to be in every conversation. So you get your week back. So you can take that clean week off without something quietly falling over.

A simple dining table set for an evening family meal: ceramic plates, water glasses, a lit candle, a wooden board with sliced bread. A phone placed face-down at the edge of the table. Empty chairs waiting around it.
The next step

Thirty minutes. With Titus. Every time.

Every install we've ever shipped started with one of these calls. The next one is yours, if you want it.

No deck. No sales pitch. Honest read on whether what we build and what you need line up. If it does, the next step is the AI Strategy Intensive. If it doesn't, you leave with a clearer view of where the AI conversation is going for a business your size.
